The ESR Tube is designed for the manual determination of erythrocyte sedimentation rates (ESR) using an ESR stand. It contains sodium citrate (0.129 mol/L or 3.8%) as an anticoagulant to prevent blood from clotting. The tube is filled with a buffered sodium citrate solution and has a blood to additive ratio of 4:1. After the tube is filled with blood, it should be inverted 8-10 times to ensure proper mixing and anticoagulation of the specimen. These tubes are available in packs of 1000 or 1200.
